KCA Yates Center Regional Meeting to Include BQA
Kansas Cattlemen’s Association (KCA), in partnership with Merck, will host a regional cattlemen’s meeting in Yates Center, Kansas to discuss industry topics on the evening of March 26, 2019 at 5:30pm. The meeting will take place at the 4-H Community Building. The meeting will include BQA Certification with Dr. Dan Thomson and presentations by Dr. Mark Corrigan with Merck and KCA CEO, Tyler Dupy. A USA-Beef meal will be served, and the meeting is open to the public.
The meeting will kick off with BQA Certification provided by veterinarian, educator, and DocTalk host, Dr. Dan Thomson. Dr. Thomson is recognized internationally as a leader in animal welfare, beef cattle production and cattle health management. Dr. Thomson’s work has been published hundreds of times, and he has conducted over 60 invited talks internationally on his research and field experience on the interactions between production management, environment and nutrition on the health and well-being of beef cattle. Dr. Thomson’s research program has been granted over $35 million with over $15 million of those funds coming with him as the primary investigator.
Beef Quality Assurance is a nationally coordinated, state implemented program that provides systematic information to U.S. beef producers and beef consumers of how common-sense husbandry techniques can be coupled with accepted scientific knowledge to raise cattle under optimum management and environmental conditions. BQA guidelines are designed to make certain all beef consumers can take pride in what they purchase and can trust and have confidence in the entire beef industry.
Dr. Mark Corrigan, a Merck nutritionist, will speak about herd health, strategic de-worming programs, and facts about implants & their value.
KCA is actively supporting independent producers in Topeka and Washington, D.C. Our staff will update attendees on the current work with legislation as well as other projects and initiatives.
