KCA President Seeks Interested Parties for Newly Created Policy Committees
Kansas Cattlemen’s Association is in the process of forming policy committees representing the member resolutions. Each resolution has been categorized under a newly formed committee. KCA is seeking four to six members to review and work policy within each committee. There is no limit to the number of committees a member may be on, but committee members need to be active members of the Kansas Cattlemen’s Association or appointed consults on policy being actively engaged at the time.
Each committee will be responsible for writing and recommending new and modified resolutions prior to each annual meeting. Members of the committee will be responsible for seeking member input from outside of the committee to develop policy for approval by the membership. In addition to policy management, committees will draft for the Board of Directors, press releases, regulatory comments, and testimony on behalf of the KCA lobbying effort.
“KCA is constantly reviewing practices and seeking better ways to serve our members and independent producers. I believe that an engaged membership is important to our growth. These committees will help overall communication and expand the scope of our work,” stated Alan Stewart, KCA President.
The committees include: Animal Health & Welfare, Rural Rights & Economic Enhancement, Marketing & Trade, Country of Origin Labeling, Kansas Cattlemen’s Beef Cooperative, and Beef Checkoff. As defined in the graphic, each committee is assigned specific resolutions. Initial members of the committees will define the scope during the first meetings of the committee.
“The formation of these committees is an excellent opportunity for members with knowledge of various subjects to get involved. Previously, special committees were formed to tackle specific resolutions and bills. This forms a steady source of thoughts and ideas, and I think that these groups will provide KCA with stronger positions to work with throughout the year and specific producer-relevant information,” stated Tyler Dupy, KCA Executive Director.
Committee meetings will be coordinated by KCA staff, and will generally be conference calls with the exception of committee meetings during the KCA Convention. It will be at the determination of the committee, the regularity to which they meet. Emergency calls of committees will also be at the discretion of the President during times of legislative sessions or other governmental regulation announcements.
