KCA Offers 2014 Scholarships
Kansas Cattlemen's Association has implemented scholarship programs aimed at high school seniors looking to further their education or vocational/technical training. KCA has two different scholarships programs available, one exclusively for members and one program which provide scholarships in various counties across the state.
KCA Membership Scholarship - To qualify for the KCA Membership Scholarship, the applicant, parent or grandparent of the applicant must be a current Kansas Cattlemen's Association member. Applicants must be enrolled as a senior in a Kansas high school and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, planning to attend a four-year college/university, junior college, vocational/trade school or enroll in technical training in the fall of 2014. All applicants must write a short essay on one of the following topics: the value of country of origin labeling for beef or the value of independent cattle producers to your community. The short essay should be 250 words or less and should be typed. One $150 scholarship is available for the 2014 fall semester.
KCA County Scholarship - Kansas Cattlemen's Association hosts a number of county events each year. As a "for producers, by producers" non-profit organization, KCA has developed a second scholarship program to give back to the communities that support KCA during the year. Within this scholarship program, KCA allocates $100 from county events from the previous year, and gives a scholarship to an applicant within each county. The 2014 KCA County Scholarships are allocated for Jackson County, Greenwood County, and Rush County.
To qualify for the KCA County Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled as a senior and attend high school within the county in which the scholarship is applied. (For 2014, scholarships are for Jackson County, Greenwood County, and Rush County.) A total of three scholarships, one for each county, will be dispersed. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be planning to attend a four- year college/university, junior college, vocational/trade school or enroll in technical training in the fall of 2014. Applicants must write a short essay on one of the following topics: the value of country of origin labeling for beef or the value of independent cattle producers to your community. The essay should be 250 words or less and typed.
All scholarship applications and essays must be returned to the KCA office, 606 N Washington St., Junction City, KS 66441 by April 1, 2014.
All scholarship recipients will be chosen by the KCA Board of Directors. Recipients will be announced in the summer of 2014.
Scholarship payments will be made directly to the qualified institution upon confirmation of enrollment or registration. All scholarship recipients will have their essay published in area newspapers as well as the KCA publication. Scholarship recipients must be able to provide an electronic copy of their essay upon request.
