Primary Election Sets Stage for Dramatic General Election in November
The Kansas primaries took place at the beginning of August. Kris Kobach and Representative Roger Marshall squared off in a battle for a spot on the November Ballot next to Barbara Bollier. Marshall won but faces a tough campaign ahead as many Republican leaders have come out in support of the Democratic candidate. Bollier and Marshall are vying to replace Senator Pat Roberts following his retirement.
There were numerous U.S. House primaries setting the stage for some stiff competition come November. The battle to replace Representative Marshal in the first district resulted in a General ticket of Tracy Mann vs. Kali Barnett, both receiving over 50% of the vote in the primary.
Jake LaTurner unseated incumbent Steve Watkins in the primary for the 2nd District. He will face Topeka Mayor, Michelle De La Isla on November 3rd.
Representative Sharice Davids was uncontested in the primary to retain her seat in District 3. She will face Republican challenger Amanda Adkins in the general election. Adkins received 30.7% of the vote in her primary.
