KCA Welcomes New Board Members, Elects New President
The Kansas Cattlemen’s Association (KCA) Board of Directors annual transition took place during the April board meeting. KCA membership voted in November 2016 for members Tony Anderson and Pete Fish to replace Bill Ireland and John Ney at the expiration of their three-year terms on the board. Ney previously served as President.
Tony Anderson, a long-term member of KCA, previously served as Vice President of the KCA Board of Directors from April 2013 to April 2016. Anderson has planned and hosted regional meetings and worked numerous trade shows in addition to traveling to Washington D.C. as a KCA ambassador. Born and raised in Farlington, Kansas, Anderson graduated with dual engineering degrees from Pittsburg State University, and thereafter returned to his family farm operation to continue the legacy started by his great-grandparents in 1867.
Pete Fish operates Fish Cattle, Inc., where he raises breeding stock (heifers and bulls) with Simmental crossbred cattle. He has focused a part of his career and time on agriculture risk management. He worked for Livestock Marketing Association in Kansas City where he learned more about risk management. He was later the co-owner of ICA Agency, where they focused primarily on commercial agriculture insurance. He later went on to join the Cline Wood Agency where he provided insurance risk service for large cattle feedlots, swine production and large dairies. He is currently a Risk Management Consultant with INTL FC Stone where he serves as a licensed commodities broker.
The board re-elected Perry Owens as Vice President and Landon Shaw as Secretary/Treasurer. It will be Owens’ second term as Vice President. Shaw will serve his third term as Secretary Treasurer. Newly elected to the Executive Committee is Alan Stewart. The board selected Stewart as the new President to replace John Ney.
Stewart joined the KCA Board of Directors in April 2015. After working across the state of Kansas in the COOP elevator business for 38 years, Alan returned to his hometown of Bronson, Kansas where he runs a stocker operation with his wife Charlotte. Stewart feels that KCA is an organization that protects the interests of producers, monitors laws and regulations, and is a voice for cattlemen in Topeka and Washington D.C.
Nominees to the Board of Directors are received during the KCA Annual Business meeting. Nominees are then elected via mail-in ballot by the membership. Directors serve three-year terms. Executive committee members are elected each year in April.
